AI-native engagement engine for news publishers

Search stopped sending readers. Give them a reason to come back.

Tempora Studio turns a newsroom's own journalism into daily HTML5 games, puzzles and quizzes, generated and fact-checked by a multi-model AI pipeline and published every morning inside the publisher's site. Readers stop arriving by accident and start arriving by habit.

The problem

Publishers are losing the click

For twenty years news sites lived on borrowed traffic: search and social sent the reader, the article earned the impression. That arrangement is ending, and it is ending fastest for the evergreen and utility content that used to pay the bills.

01

Answer engines keep the reader

AI Overviews and chat assistants summarise the story on the results page. The reporting still happens; the visit does not.

02

Social referral has collapsed

Platforms deprioritise links and keep users in-feed. Referral traffic that once rescued a slow news day is no longer there.

03

Pageviews alone don't pay

Fewer sessions, shorter visits and lower ad yield squeeze the newsroom at the same time it is asked to do more.

Search referrals: falling Daily return visits: building

Old model: rented reach

  • Traffic decided by someone else's algorithm
  • One-off visits, one article, bounce
  • Anonymous readers, third-party data
  • Revenue = pageviews × falling CPM

New model: owned habit

  • Readers return directly, every day, for a ritual
  • Long sessions: a daily puzzle runs 10–25 minutes
  • Streaks and leaderboards create logged-in, first-party audiences
  • Revenue = sponsorship, rewarded ads, registrations and subscriptions

Games are the most proven habit format in news: the publishers that invested early now count puzzles among their strongest reasons to visit and to subscribe. Until now, building that took a dedicated puzzle desk. Tempora Studio makes it a product any newsroom can switch on.

How it works

From today's coverage to tomorrow's ritual

The engine reads what the newsroom already publishes and turns it into games that feel native to that brand, in that language, about that audience's world.

Ingest

Connect an RSS feed, sitemap or CMS API. Articles, archives, results and fixtures become a structured knowledge base the engine can draw from.

Generate

An LLM pipeline drafts crosswords, quizzes, "who said it", timelines and prediction games, with clues written in the publication's voice.

Verify

A second model fact-checks every clue against the source article; deterministic validators check every grid and answer. Editors approve with one click, or let trusted formats auto-publish.

Publish & earn

Games go live at 06:00 in a white-label, mobile-first hub on the publisher's domain, with ad slots, sponsorship and analytics built in.

The platform

One engine, every lever a newsroom needs

AI-native by design

A multi-model pipeline, not a single prompt

Every game Tempora Studio publishes passes through several language models, each picked for the job it does best. A unified, model-agnostic API lets us route each step to the right model, compare quality and cost on real output, and fall back automatically so the 06:00 edition never misses.

Article → three model families → game. When a model is down, the step reroutes and the edition still ships.

Grounded, never invented

Every clue cites the publisher's own article. No source, no question.

Deterministic where it matters

Models write; code validates grids, answers and schedules before anything ships.

Provider-independent

Swap or combine models as quality and pricing change, with no rewrite and no lock-in.

Already in production

Built, shipped and running

Tempora Studio grew out of a live, mobile-first sports games hub built for a national sports publication's audience. The core of the platform is already in production; the AI pipeline is how we scale it from one publisher to many.

  • Game SDK: one small script connects any HTML5 game to the hub for progress, scores, ads and analytics.
  • Daily puzzle engine: date-seeded, validated puzzles generated and scheduled more than a year ahead.
  • Publisher dashboard: game catalogue, game data, and ad management for in-game boards, level breaks and rewarded ads.
  • Discovery layer: pre-rendered game pages with structured data, sitemaps and llms.txt, readable by search and AI agents.
  • Habit loop: daily missions, XP, streaks, favourites and weekly / all-time leaderboards.

FAQ

Questions publishers ask

Will AI-generated games get facts wrong?

Every clue is drawn from and checked against a specific article you published, by a second, independent model, and grids and answers are verified by code. Editors can review everything before it goes live, or approve trusted formats to auto-publish.

Do the games live on our domain?

Yes. The hub is white-label and runs on your domain or sub-domain, so the traffic, the SEO value and the first-party data are yours.

How long does integration take?

A pilot needs a content feed (RSS, sitemap or CMS API) and a DNS record. Most of the work is on our side; a newsroom can be live within days.

What about reader privacy?

Progress is stored on the reader's device until they choose to sign in. Personalised advertising only runs with consent, and article content is processed without any reader data.

Is this an agency service?

No. Tempora Studio is a software platform. Publishers subscribe and run it themselves; the engine produces the games, not a team of freelancers.

Who plays the games?

Adult news readers on the publisher's own site. The games are built around current affairs, sport and culture coverage for a general adult audience; they are not designed for or marketed to children.

Turn your archive into a daily habit

We are onboarding a small group of pilot publishers. Tell us about your newsroom and we will send a sample puzzle built from last week's coverage.
